Ladies and Gentlemen, Legacy Thompson.

Oh it is bound to happen - I am to tragically fall for one completely out of my league. Fate, if you may. I was never meant to be where you were. I was the uncomfortable lowly commoner in your exquisite abode, who once swore at your snooty lot's existence.

Love at first sight, it was. From when you were given the grand introduction by your trusty guardian, from whence your masculine name danced so rightly at the tip of my tongue as I say it. Again and again and again...

~

I knew you were special, even before it was brought to announcement of your distinction.

In a treasured private moment, ever lightly I ran my digits across your supple skin, shivers involuntarily rippled down my spine. For a fleeting instant you let me embraced you and I held my breath in a quiet gasp, your subtle scent further caressed my senses, causing a sigh to escape my lips.

Not only pleasing on the outside, your interior grandeur is a match. Colourful and brimming with spirit, you're a personality to be reckon with. But a large hollow part of you is hungry, ever ready to offer yourself to a world full of knowledge and love.

A rare stunner you are, you evidently belong in a life lavished with luxury, bright lights and scrutiny. But in all this wearisome pampering, you longed for liberty. In your proud display and helplessness, you can only silently plead to be whisked away. To be free from this shiny glassed confinement and see the universe! If you are with me now, you shall touch the humble life of the everyday ordinaries, to feel appreciations without ideas of status or obsession!

~

Alas! While our reflection together may paint a picture of perfection, in an ideal world, we are never meant to be. Who am I to relieve you from restraint! It is beyond my yardstick to afford an extravagance like you. Even being in the same room with you, I was already threading on dangerous grounds.

To finally free you from my grasp and to walk away without daring another last look was the most painful ordeal, one I never wish to endeavour ever again.

Was it Sex or Fashion?

The hit HBO television series that has inspired many to get a pair of Manolo Blahnik-s have finally hit the big screens.

I just can’t wait to catch in the cinema. Four years is a long wait. Sex and the City: The Movie, one of the most highly anticipated films of 2008. Okay, maybe just for those fashionista-wannabes.

The big talk is, Carrie Bradshaw will be wearing 81 outfits in this movie. Eighty one! Isn’t that just a record breaker? Not losing out, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have 200 changes altogether. All outfits created by notorious PATRICIA FIELDS, stylist.

Besides the four main protagonist, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda, other stars steal the show such as Manolo Blahnik, the shoe, not the designer. Carrie’s signature oversized flower her outfits. Lastly newcomer, Jennifer Hudson. Don’t forget to suss them out.

I attempted to list I listed all the designers involved in this project, but then I thought, why bother. SATC : The Movie basically had the who’s who in the fashion industry lending the fab four a dress or two or three. No wonder they have 281 outfits. It's a bit outrageous to have so many outfit in a 2 hour movie but it’s not really a reality, let’s just be inspired by them.

Its first premiere was held recently, May 11 in London. Gasp! Why not Manhattan, where all the sex happened in this city. But that can wait - Sex and the City's premiere in New York will be taking place in on May 27 before opening in cinemas across USA on May 30th. We shall see if they can outshine London’s and Berlin’s premiere. For us in Malaysia, GSC cinemas will be showing it on 31 July.

Sarah Jessica Parker wore a pale green dress by Alexander McQueen, and coordinating her shoes and bag by the same designer.

Standing out of a crowd, was her green headpiece by Philip Treacy. It had flowers, grasses and a butterfly! It’s the quirkyness that only Carrie Bradshaw’s can carry off.

Did she get inspiration from Imogem Heap?

Kim Cattrall, the sexy one, wore a sexy chilli red off-the-shoulder cocktail dress by Vivienne Westwood. No doubt it’s a sexy color but the dress seems like almost a last minute DIY dress, folded and pinned on to her body. The same colored stripes almost make her look bigger. But still there’s sexy appeal there. I think that is the epitomes of Samantha’s character.

Cynthia Nixon, or Miranda as I would like to call her. In SATC, she always seems the logical one, maybe because of her profession. She wore a shimmer black long Calvin Klein dress. Plunging neckline, and a low-cut pleated black.
She definitely oozed a lot of sex appeal almost comparable to Cattrall. My kudos to her, for battling breast cancer recently.

Sweet sweet Kristin Davis was wearing a red sleeveless dress with a little bit of chiffon at the chest area paired with cream peep-toe heels. This vintage dress is by Guy Laroche Couture. I find this classic look a little boring for a premiere.

At the Berlin premiere, outfits was a little less outstanding but still preserving SATC’s fashion flair.

I personally hope this movie will ignite motivation to dress to our best.

Inside, we all want to be like Carrie. To have the courage to dress uniquely as an individual and not worried about others judging the way you dress. That is so enviable.

In other ways, I am like her, I like my money where I can see them. In my closet, that is.

Babydoll

Yes, remember the time when every where you turn, in every clothing store, the babydoll-cut dress/top ruled. I think it'd became a fast favourite among many because of its girly casualness and of course - the flared bottom is a god-sent solution in hiding those unsightly tummy bulges. For this reason alone, I think it's here to stay for good. ( Kudos if you don't have tummy fat but be careful. It's a special feature in aging. )

But for some, if not careful in choosing one that is right, chance is that it may end up like you're expecting.

For me, all that excess cloth after the bustline proved unfavourable to my body type. Not that I'm on the heavier side, but I don't know... everytime I try on a short babydoll-cut dress/top, my reflection is just plain odd. Plus, it didn't help that I am always self conscious on not looking too girly. ( yes, I'm not your girly girl ). I guess if it's empire line, I still prefer the full length dress.

I had never given up and had often continue the search for the prefect babydoll-cut dress/top for myself. Over a span of time, I managed to acquire a few to my taste and those that flatter me.

One of my favourite - bright coloured and avoided any 'when are you due' stares ;)

Love its light chiffon-like material. Wear it over jeans for a cheery mood around town or throw it over a bikini on a breezy holiday.

Fashionably titled, not!

From time to time, I question my participance in contributing here. FASHION.

To qualify being here ( fashion blog ) surely means being in the know about all things current and never being fashionably impaired. Now, between the two contributors here, I AM quite the fashion-ignorant one.

Examples ::

01. I am committing one of the biggest fashion crime ever - I'd never own an LBD.

02. Except on the annual Oscars red carpet, like I care which celeb wears what.

03. I honestly absolutely didn't know of the existence of THE Anya Hindmarch brand, until main blogger Plain Jane threw a hissy fit about her disastrous failure to reserve one of those prized 'Plastic Bags' for herself. The monumental scale of the event didn't actually quite sank into me yet then, as I was still rolling my eyes like Simon Cowell, not comprehending the global obsession.

~

Not that I'm not passionate about fashion, but in general fashion - most are too high fashion or are just irrelevant eye-candies to my humble lifestyle. Of course, i oohed and ahhed to certain new vogues. I have an exclusive albeit simple must-have list of my own. But that's about it.

Or perhaps I'm threading the fine line between passion for fashion and passion for shopping???

Yes, I LOVE to shop. To try on new clothes, to discover new garments that fits me. Until I find them relevant in my day to day doings, I actually couldn't care less about most of the seasonal fashion hype. I pride myself to have acquired an individual taste. I don't give a damn about that heel-less heels and you won't see me jumping into the bandwagon of the return of leggings. But... BUT... I care about what I put on myself to look good. I care about looking current with items that suit my personality and financial state. I care enough NOT to fall as a fashion victim. And it pains me to see those who possess zero fashion sense.

I care about fashion on a personal degree.
( And maybe 'fashion' is too big of a word for me. 'Style' would be a more appropriate term here. )

~

At every level, I feel that what is communicated here should be generally informative and be in the best interest of majority. Besides time constraints ( I have a day-job! ) and priorities, often I hesitate to post at Fashionista's Playground because I am not able to write - had the subject is not personal enough for me. Therefore, I find it quite a task to express freely from a fashion point of view here. Thus the lack of post from yours truly. I have this ( irrational? ) fear of causing alienation.

So why not just post about MY personal sense of style?

Well, although I adore my personal simplicity and the occasional moderate flair, most of the times I just don't think my rather un-bombastic ways of dressing and accessorising deserve THAT much whoring. Let's face it, I'm no style chameleon nor do I boast of a cupboardful of thrifted/vintage find to showcase.

Although through time, growth and influences, I have noticed that my personal style shifted. No longer I wholly based my dressing to the practical simplicity and comfort. I was all about tees and jeans. Lately, I've expanded the content of my closet into more illustrious varieties. Basics are still my favourites, but I've taken more interest into textures and details.

I find myself attracted to garments/accessories that didn't take subdued details for granted. Every little fold, pleat, pattern, threading or movement of fabrics that may seem trivial to the naked eyes, do make a lot of difference.

Being more adventurous now, what I used to ignore - I'm willing to give some a try. Like I used to swear that my awkward body will never tolerate any girly babydoll-cut dresses or tops, but having found the right ones, they actually flatter.

Not only my personal style subtly changed, but I've noticed a swing in my buying habits too - sometimes acquiring items I only desire, not need, just for the sake of STYLE. Or, purchasing things I believe may end up only being worn once or twice, then stashed as 'vintage' in the sad corner till the fashion wheel rotates back to its popularity. If it ever does, that is.

~

Most importantly I think, even when one experiments new trends, you should never lose your core identity.

Look good, be unique, maintain yourself.

Possibly the best personal fashion maxim I can offer.

IT'S SPRING

It's spring and it's the reason for you to don anything floral and not look like an old lady.
SEED / Spring 2008
MNG / Spring 2008
I've seen a similar top in Zara too. One top, 3 styles, 3 prices. Take a pick.

Gap : The White Collection

I was very much looking forward to see the latest great designs in Gap's exclusive designer white shirt collection recently made available in our Malaysian Gap stores (only in KLCC and One U stores).

This year's finalist from 2007 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund are rising designers namely 3.1 Phillip Lim's Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders’ Scott Sternberg, Michael Bastian, Philip Crangi and threeASFOUR’s Gabi Asfour, Adi Gil & Angela Donhauser. Again, it's to create a limited edition collection inspired by the classic Gap white shirt.

Reminiscing ;

Last year had notable designers such as Thakoon, Kate & Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte and Doo.Ri show their utmost creative skills in a black white shirt. It was exclusively featured in the covers of Vogue 2007 May issue. 2007's collection gave a breath of fresh air to the conventional white shirt / dress.

This campaign's aim is simple > designs are a fresh new take on a simple white blouse. White items are a definitive item in one's wardrobe. But this range is not any simple white blouse or shirt or dress. It has great detailing, cuttings and not to mention the price factor (designer wear at a fraction).

This year's design that caught my eyes are threeASFOUR’s asymmetrically cut-out dress. I did manage to tried it out. Feminine neckline was further accentuated by the precise cut at the shoulder line and the cute but not overtly done heart ruffles at the chest area. Stitching across the bodice immaculately done, hardly noticeable at first glance. But for anyone less than modelesque height, it does look a bit like a tent dress. Lastly, this lovely white dress is finished with a row of buttons at the back, with a slight fold. I know, hard to imagine. But it's all these small details that makes it a true original design. Far different from any white dress. Here are some pictures...

This is what I called, a subtly sexy dress. Great enough for a cocktail party or a day out in the park.

Agyness Deyn: The current face (still?)

I don't understand what is the hype about this face, or the look? Yes, the hairstyle change did it for Twiggy and it did propel Agyness to superstardom being a supermodel. I feel that her look is kinda old now, 2 years in that same look is vintage (in modelling years).

However, I like this picture of her. She looked very sweet, friendly and approachable. Could it be the bicycle, the dress or her smile. Definitely the dress, her white blonde hair is too androgynous, and this dress tones it down a whole notch.
